Navigate the Shift

AI job anxiety counseling in Franklin and Nashville

Travis Hill, LPC-MHSP, offers individual counseling for adults whose work and sense of self are being shaken by AI and other technology change. Sessions are at Navigate Life Counseling in Cool Springs, Franklin, Tennessee, and by telehealth across Tennessee.

If you are looking for an AI job anxiety therapist in Franklin or Nashville, this is counseling with a licensed professional counselor. It is not a chatbot, and there is no AI-specific certification behind the name. The method is mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy — the same established approach this practice already uses for anxiety, anger, and stress. Navigate the Shift is a service line inside Navigate Life Counseling, not a separate clinic.

Who it’s for

Work is changing. The person doing the job still matters.

Anxious about AI and your job

You still have the role, and you have also lost it several times in your head this week. Counseling looks at the thought, the body, and what is actually happening this month.

Laid off, or worried you will be

The change already happened, or you are waiting on it. Anger, shame, and the loss of a role are reasonable responses. The work is how to function while you decide what is next.

Mid-career, and the job is the identity

Especially for men whose sense of self rests on being the provider or the expert. When that role feels threatened, fear often shows up as irritability, control, or silence. That is worth a direct conversation.

Managers leading a team through the change

You are responsible for other people while your own role is shifting. Individual counseling for the worry you carry and the tone you take home. This is not a corporate workshop.

The part most people skip

The anger under the change

A lot of talk about AI and jobs stays on fear. Under the fear there is often anger: resentment, blame, rumination, and the thought “I did everything right.” The rules changed anyway. That reaction makes sense. It is also the emotion Travis has worked with for more than 20 years in individual counseling.

If anger is the loud part, the skills are the same ones on the anger management page. Notice the thought. Slow the body. Choose the next action on purpose, instead of rehearsing the argument. Longer writing on anger, work, and identity is on the blog, including why so many middle-aged men are struggling right now.

What the sessions work on

There is no AI-specific treatment to claim here. Sessions use mindfulness-based CBT, an established approach for anxiety and anger, aimed at five ordinary problems:

  • Catastrophic thinking about the future. Separate a prediction from a fact. Ask what you would tell a friend who handed you the same story.
  • Uncertainty tolerance. Mindfulness that keeps you in the day you are actually in, instead of rehearsing the worst case late at night.
  • Anger and shame. Including the urge to blame a company, a person, or yourself for a change you did not get to vote on.
  • Identity beyond the job title. A working life is one part of a person. The goal is a self that can survive a title change.
  • Values-based next steps. What you will do this week that matches what matters to you. Not a fantasy plan for a labor market nobody can guarantee.

What this is not

  • Not a new diagnosis, and not an AI credential.
  • Not career coaching, reskilling advice, or financial planning.
  • Not couples counseling, and not counseling for children or teens.
  • Not a class. Sessions are 55 minutes, with one adult.

This worry is common, which does not make it small. In September 2026, Gallup reported that 27% of U.S. workers fear technology will make their job obsolete — a record for that question, up from 13% in 2017. A separate Gallup report found that supportive managers cut that fear. A national figure is not a treatment plan. The session is about your thoughts, your anger, and your next step.

FAQ

Questions about Navigate the Shift

Is there a certification in AI therapy?

No. There is no recognized credential for counseling about AI or technology change, and this practice does not claim one. Navigate the Shift is individual counseling that uses mindfulness-based cognitive behavioral therapy, the same established approach used here for anxiety, anger, and stress. It is not a new diagnosis.

Who is this for?

Adults 18 and older. People who are anxious about AI and their job, people who have been laid off or are worried they might be, mid-career adults — especially men — whose identity rests on work, and managers leading a team through technology change. Sessions are individual. This practice does not see children, teens, or couples.

Do I have to be out of a job already?

No. Many people who come for this are still employed. The work can be the worry before a change, or the anger and loss of a role after one. Both belong in the room.

Will you tell me how to reskill or which job to take?

No. Counseling stays on the emotional and behavioral side: thinking about the future, uncertainty, anger, shame, identity, and next steps that match what you value. Résumés, reskilling plans, and financial decisions belong with a career coach, outplacement, or a financial professional.

How do I schedule, and where are sessions?

Sessions are 55 minutes, in person at the Cool Springs office in Franklin or by telehealth anywhere in Tennessee. Call 615-538-7111 and ask for an appointment. Accepted insurance plans are listed in the FAQ.
